Today we welcome Katie Brennan, not only as our At Health Australia 'Fit Foodie Inspo of the Month' but we're also very proud to introduce Katie as our At Health Australia Brand Ambassador!

Katie is incredibly passionate about Female AFL and has recently opened her own performance coaching centre in Melbourne which we think is pretty amazing. Katie has achieved some serious sporting achievements and coupled with her passion, dedication and hard work, we know we'll continue to see Katie kicking goals.

How would you describe your diet? 

My diet is high protein, low carb (carbs mainly after training), low sugar and gluten free. I found by removing both gluten and sugar from my diet, helps my body to recover faster after training and helps to give me sustained energy throughout the day. I also try to eat mostly organic.

 

What do you usually eat for breakfast?

Protein Smoothie or Eggs & Avo

 

What are your favourite Protein Smoothie ingredients - have you got a fav recipe to share?

What's your favourite healthy treat?

At Health Australia Protein with Greek yoghurt, blueberries, dates, almond spread, cacao and bee pollen

 

We know it's important to have health & fitness goals... What's your current fitness goal or challenge?

I have a current goal to get back to running by the end of this year (as I have been injured) but my long term goal is to play in the 2017 AFL Women's  National League - I would also love to win some more premierships!

 

 

 

 

How many times a week do you work out, and how long do you typically train for?

I keep most of my training sessions around 45mins - 90mins. These typically involve a combination of 2x max strength sessions, 3x conditioning sessions and a few core/recovery sessions and skills sessions. 

 

 

What are your 3 favourite ways to work out?

I am really loving getting back into max strength sessions - where we are train to near failure in most exercises.

It's been amazing to see my numbers increase and to just feel stronger on the field and in everyday life.

 

What is the your greatest sporting achievement?

Being Drafted to the Western Bulldogs and winning the 2015 Best & Fairest for the club

 

 

Have you always been this fit and active? What has your fitness journey been like?

I have always loved sport and being fit. I grew up playing every sport under the sun like most kids- and started to really focus on football from about 16 onwards.

 

What is your biggest personal challenge when it comes to staying fit or healthy eating, and how do you combat it?

I think being an athlete you can't get caught up in training too much. You have to stick to a strict schedule and make sure you're training smart and recovering as hard as you train. Injuries are always challenging also but they are just apart of sport.

 

 

Who inspires you and why?

I have a few different role models - My Dad, Nat Fyfe, Rhonda Rousey, Cathy Freeman and Beyoncé

 

Best advice you've ever been given?

Never let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big!

 

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than one you are capable of living - Nelson Mandala
